New Delhi:
Varun Gandhi of the BJP, sacked from the party’s national executive earlier this week, continued his criticism of the crushing of farmers in UP’s Lakhimpur Kheri – allegedly by the son of a Union minister – and its consequences.
The MP called the incident murder and demanded accountability.
Today, highlighting Home Secretary Ajay Mishra’s comment that the incident was organized by Khalistanis, he said there was an attempt to give a common color to the events.
“The struggle for justice in Lakhimpur is about the cruel slaughter of poor farmers in the face of an arrogant local elite, it has no religious overtones,” Gandhi said.
An attempt to turn #LakhimpurKheri into a Hindu versus Sikh battle is underway. Not only is this an immoral and false story, it is dangerous to create those fault lines and reopen wounds that took a generation to heal. We must not put small political gains above national unity

“Using the word Khalistani liberally to describe the protesting farmers is not only an insult to the generations of those proud sons of the Terai who fought and spilled blood at our borders, it is also extremely dangerous for our unity. national if that provokes the wrong reaction, ”he declared, but without naming the minister.
