Allegation of embezzlement to revive deceptive local production RIFAN

The Nigeria Rice Farmers Association (RIFAN) has responded to the allegation of lack of focus and misplaced priority addressed to it.

In a statement published by an online platform and attributed to a certain Shariff MM Alhassan, the management of the Niger state section of RIFAN was accused of embezzling funds intended to stimulate rice production for the personal comfort of certain members and of their friends.

A statement signed by RIFAN Publicity Secretary, Niger State Chapter Comrade Ibrahim Yusuf, however, refuted the allegations.

Comrade Yusuf argued that there was no iota of truth in the report which he called misleading, unverifiable with the intention of discrediting the association.

He said: “The attention of our forum was drawn to the unverifiable allegations against the coordinator of the Rice Farmers Association Of Nigeria, Niger State Chapter, in a post allegedly written by one Shariff MM Alhassan.

“RIFAN as a critical actor in the affairs of the nation, we view the allegation as just an orchestrated narrative to discredit us.”

“Niger RIFAN is known to remain the leading state in terms of rice production and the Ministry of Agriculture and other federal and state government intervention agencies can attest to this.

We challenge Shariff M. M Alhassan to name the warehouse in which the rice he claims to have been purchased was stored by the State of RIFAN Niger or any actual corrupt practice committed by the association.

We again reaffirmed our position that the report was intended to create resentment in our ranks and to misinform the public and the good people of Niger State. Why did the reporter not make an effort to hear our own point of view in order to balance his sensational report which we believe was intended to pursue a sinister motive? “

The association further “called on the public to ignore this so-called story as we remain focused and determined to boost local rice production in Niger state.”

“It should be noted that the pragmatic leadership of the Nigerien state RIFAN has earned it distinctions in terms of numerous awards. We again take this opportunity to congratulate all members of RIFAN Niger State for their many efforts to ensure the success of RIFAN Niger State.
