Trump told racist joke before meeting Vietnamese prime minister: new book

Donald Trump, the man who has repeatedly described himself as “the least racist person there is,” allegedly made an incredibly racist joke just before meeting Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuân Phúc, who is now the country’s president .

The account of the incident comes from a new book written by former US Ambassador to Vietnam Ted Osius, appointed to the post by President Obama in 2017. An excerpt from his book was published in Salon on Tuesday .

“So who do we meet?” Trump asked HR McMaster, then a national security adviser, during a trip to New York City in May 2017, according to the book.

When McMaster told Trump he would meet with the Vietnamese prime minister, Trump asked for the prime minister’s name. A national security official replied: “Nguyen Xuân Phúc. Rhymes with “book”.

In response, according to the book says, Trump made a racist joke: “You mean like Fook You? I knew a guy named Fook You. Truly. I rented him a restaurant. When he picked up the phone, he answered “Fook You”. His business has gone badly. People didn’t like it. He lost the restaurant.

Osius writes that after those in the room “dutifully laughed,” making sure Trump’s delicate ego remained intact, McMaster reminded the president that he had five minutes left until the meeting began. Osius, a career diplomat, would resign just months after Trump made the remark because he disagreed with the administration’s attempts to deport thousands of refugees from South Vietnam who came in the United States after the Vietnam War.

This is of course far from the only racist remark of the former president. He notoriously branded a number of countries as “shit” countries, shared a video on Twitter of his supporters shouting “white power” and sadly launched his campaign claiming that Mexican immigrants entering the country were “rapists. ” – to only cite a few. many, many examples.
