A teacher from the Klein Independent School District has resigned after being caught on camera making racist and homophobic comments with students in his class.

At a press conference on Wednesday, activist Quanell X, along with parents of Klein ISD, said the district had taken no action to respond to a video recording, which contained racist and homophobic comments by a theater arts teacher at Klein Collins High School a week before he surfaced.

Quanell X said the words were offensive and disrespectful to blacks, Hispanics and indigenous peoples.

Mr. G., your words are an insult to all black students, Latino students and native people, he said. You tried to intimidate these students by saying downright disrespectful things to them.

The video reportedly showed the teacher making a racial slurs with his students, followed by a rant about US history, Quanell X said.

Quanell X said he was quoting the teacher in the video when he said there was no evidence Native Americans inherited the country.

This man is unfit, unqualified to be a teacher, he said. What I want to know is if there will be an open investigation to see what kind of notes he gave. Because if you have that kind of racist mindset, who knows what you’re doing in your notebook.

Some parents who were at the press conference said they gave the district a chance to get it right, but nothing was done.
