The Phoenix Suns issued a precautionary denial on Friday to unpublished misconduct charges by team owner Robert Sarver.
“We understand that ESPN is considering releasing a proposed story that makes completely unfounded claims against the Suns Legacy Partners, LLC organization regarding a variety of matters,” the statement said.
The denial was issued before the Suns played the Lakers on Friday night at Staples Center. At the time of the announcement, no story had been published.
In a detailed statement, Sarver said all accusations of discrimination were false.
“Above all, I reject any innuendo of personal or organizational racism or discrimination based on sex. I despise language that disrespects any individual, regardless of race, sex, preference or choice, ”he said. “Such language has no place in business or at home in what I consider to be the Suns and Mercury families. I am proud of our record of diversity and inclusion in both teams, whether in the field or at the front office. “
Suns general manager James Jones released a statement saying: ‘Nothing that has been said describes the Robert Sarver that I know, respect and love – it just doesn’t. . “
Suns coach Monty Williams mostly declined to comment before the game, instead trying to focus on the upcoming game.
“I’m not going to talk about all of this,” Williams said. “And nothing will invade or erode our culture. This is something we have been saying from day one. Victories, defeats. We play basketball, we hoop. And that’s not going to change.
