The Phoenix Suns released several statements Friday denying allegations of racism, sexism and harassment against team owner Robert Sarver, which the team says are part of a “proposed story” by ESPN. Sarver, owner of the Suns since 2004 and also owner of the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury, has categorically denied any suggestion he used derogatory language related to race or gender.

“While I cannot begin to know how to respond to some of the vague suggestions made by mostly anonymous voices, I can certainly tell you that some of the statements that I find completely repugnant to my nature and the character of the Suns / Mercury workplace and I can tell you that has never happened, ”Sarver said in a statement.

“Nothing that has been said describes the Robert Sarver I know, respect and love – it just doesn’t,” said general manager James Jones.

NBA analyst Jordan Schultz said in a Twitter post on Friday that the league “was bracing for” a huge story “with allegations against Sarver.

The Suns issued a statement calling the allegations against the organization in the potential story “completely baseless.”

“The documentary evidence in our possession and eyewitness testimony directly contradict the journalist’s accusations, and we are preparing our response to his questions,” the Suns said in the statement. “We urge everyone not to rush to judge here. Mostly based on lies, innuendos and a false narrative to attack our organization and its leaders. “

Team president Jason Rowley said the team planned to “respond accordingly.”

Ahead of the Suns’ Friday night game against the Los Angeles Lakers, coach Monty Williams declined to speak about the allegations or the team’s response.

“I’m worried about winning tonight’s game,” he said. “I am keen to play with the rhythm, to reduce our turnovers. I understand what’s going on and what’s going on, but I’m not going to comment on this until I have time to process the information and get everything I need to know about the situation.
