SINGAPORE: The Tripartite Alliance for Fair and Progressive Employment Practices (TAFEP) examines allegations of workplace harassment against co-founder and CEO of production company Night Owl Cinematics (NOC), Sylvia Chan.

TAFEP, in a joint statement with the Ministry of Manpower, said on Friday (October 22) that it was currently “in contact” with the NOC “to look into the matter,” following comments from members of the public.

“Employers should keep their workplaces safe by preventing and managing harassment at work,” they said.

“They also have a legal obligation to pay their wages to employees on time. People who experience harassment at work and whose wages are withheld should contact TAFEP or the Tripartite Alliance for Dispute Management as soon as possible to obtain help.

“Those with knowledge of any criminal behavior should immediately report such incidents to the police.”

Separately, Singapore Police (SPF) said they were investigating several police reports written by Ms Chan.

A spokesperson for Ms Chan told CNA on Thursday that she had received death threats, that she was subject to “relentless harassment” and that her emails had been hacked.

“Police confirm reports have been filed and investigations are ongoing,” SPF said in response to questions from CNA.

Allegations regarding NOC’s work culture surfaced online in early October and included anonymous and unverified allegations, as well as alleged leaks of audio recordings of verbal abuse against one of the company’s employees.

Ms Chan admitted in an Instagram post on October 13 that she “did not live up to the standards expected” of her, saying she would be removed from the NOC’s list of artists.

“To all those who trusted me and who felt disappointed by the allegations made against me, I am very sorry,” she added.

However, new allegations against her were published Tuesday in a blog post allegedly written by current and former NOC employees.

The post covers alleged embezzlement of company funds and bartering the sexual services of a CNO “talent” in exchange for courier services, among other claims.

On Thursday, a spokesperson for Ms. Chan spoke out against a “concerted and coordinated effort to discredit and denigrate her.”

“These efforts include death threats, relentless harassment, hacking of his emails, loss of access to NOC’s financial systems and records, and even a sex video,” he said.

He added, “Regarding the latest round of allegations, (Ms. Chan) intends to fully address and refute each of them in due course.”
