Braves advance, Dodgers can blame Roberts

If the Los Angeles Dodgers had Max Scherzer to pitch in Game 6 of the NLCS, they might have been able to grab another win. However, when the Dodgers manager used Scherzer in an NLDS relief appearance and got his arm down, I never thought we would see the same flamethrower throw at the level that he is known. His start in Game 2 was anemic and Roberts admitted after his team’s elimination that he had made a mistake.

The Braves enclosure won it for them. Tyler Matzek got them out of trouble and quit six times in a row. Much of it with gas. The NLCS MVP was Eddie Rosario who was impossible to get out of. The Dodgers tried everything against him, and his 14 hits showed it. He’s tied with five other players in the history books for accomplishing this feat. The Braves traded Pablo Sandoval in Cleveland for Rosario, and the Braves also got cash consideration in the deal. It was the best trade on the deadline. No one knew at the time, except maybe the Braves, but that’s how it turned out.

Can the Braves beat the Astros? They can, but that will be another discussion for another day.

Brian Sabean said he was interested in the Mets’ work

So now that former San Francisco Giants general manager Brian Sabean has thrown his hat in the ring, are the Mets chasing him? I am not sure. He was a competitor of Sandy Alderson. They were virtually in the same market when Alderson was with Oakland.

Now there is talk of Bruce Bochy getting a call for his time with the Giants as well. Alderson let Bochy speak to the Giants in 2006 with a year left on his contract, and when he accepted the Giants job, the Padres demanded no compensation. A bold move from Alderson that exploded in his face when he helped guide the Giants to a World Series victory in 2010, then 2012 and 2014. So why would Alderson take it now when he’s not there? did not like at the time? Oh, the hardware, yeah, I don’t think Bochy would be an analytics fan. That probably ends this conversation.

So who will be the next Mets manager? Hopefully not Carlos Beltran. The days of Wally Backman are over for the Mets who consider him. Maybe Edgardo Alfonzo. He was a good manager for Brooklyn. The former CEO and Brodie Van Wagenen fired him without explanation. Alfonzo was stunned, as were the Mets fans. I would bring him in because the list is getting shorter by the day.
