We have only ourselves to blame | News, Sports, Jobs

Dissatisfaction with our elected officials in Washington seems to be as high as it has ever been in my lifetime. The reproaches are not lacking. The left accuses the right. The right accuses the left. The Conservatives blame MSNBC. The Liberals accuse Fox News. Tucker Carlson is the spokesperson for the Whites? Al Sharpton is the spokesperson for blacks? Members of Congress are on television insulting each other rather than quietly negotiating in private.

I have a theory about where the ultimate blame lands. It is with whom the disgraced but intelligent former president Richard Nixon once called the “silent majority.” In recent times, the majority of Americans have remained too silent. The strongest voices have done a good job of taking over the two main political parties. Do we really want Mitchell McConnell to be our spiritual advisor? Do we really want Bernie Sanders to be our economic advisor? It’s no surprise that most sane people are reluctant to get involved in politics. Is it any wonder that as a result more politicians who do not reflect what America could be? While the competent stay at home and do not get involved, the door opens for the incompetent to rule. Is this the formula we use to choose our doctor, our dentist, our lawyer, our mechanic, not to mention our friends? Do we favor silly and loud results? Unless the serious and silent majority decides to take over political parties, why shouldn’t we expect more of the same embarrassing chaos?

The silent majority built this country. How can the same people let the system be run by problem makers rather than problem solvers? China, Russia and Iran are laughing at us. Silencers play the game of our enemies while the strong are more interested in noise than results. Silence did not free the slaves. Silence did not win the Second World War. The average American is better than those who represent him. We have only ourselves to blame. Does America have to hit rock bottom before the silent majority gets more involved, or don’t we know bottom when we see it? Both Democrats and Republicans must take back their parties. If not them, who? If not now when? Without the participation of reasonable people, how can we expect reasonable government?
