They lost 2-1 at home to Leeds United on Sunday, and they have now won none of their last 20 Premier League games dating back to their terrible run at the end of the 2019-20 season which sealed their relegation.
“Not great, Bob” sums up the current situation in Norwich.
Norwich manager Daniel Farke admitted his side hadn’t been good enough and was disheartened after their loss to Leeds. It is clear that the newly promoted Canaries are ready for another desperate relegation battle as they are already eight points from safety.
Speaking to the BBC after the game, Farke couldn’t argue with the people who were critical of his team.

Brutally Honest Daniel Farke
“You have to be honest. Once you have two points after 10 games, that’s not good enough. If you are still unlucky you have to add quality and there is only one answer. We can’t afford a lot of quality players, we need to work hard on the training ground. This is the only answer. I can’t fault my players for lacking in attitude and work ethic. But if that’s not enough, we have to work even harder, ”Farke said.
“Our fans are always with us. They have a sense of what you have done. They don’t blame, they always give their support. There is no guarantee for a self-funded club that has to work with young players but the guarantee is that we will never give up. If that’s not enough, we work even harder.
The Norwich players are playing with a real lack of confidence and they already seemed resigned to relegation.
The story continues
Farke added that the two defensive mistakes were the key to Norwich’s loss in this game, and that sums up their season so far.
“It’s disappointing because these are the kinds of games you have to win to earn the right to stay in this league,” Farke said. “This is the story of our season. We lost to the top three, but everyone else was a tight competitive game. Self-critical, still unlucky but lacking in quality. We put our efforts and our hearts but we play for the points. We need more quality in both boxes.
What is Norwich’s biggest problem?
This last point is the key point and this is why Norwich occupies the bottom of the table.
Making big mistakes defensively and not creating enough in attack is a recipe for disaster and Norwich now exists in this bizarre realm of not being good enough for the Premier League but way too good for the Championship.
The Canaries have emerged as the quintessential yo-yo club with two promotions in the past three seasons. Forwards Teemu Pukki and Josh Sargent barely felt the goal at the top and the loss of Emiliano Buendia this summer has been a blow to the way Norwich is playing, especially in attack.
Farke has lost key players throughout his time at Norwich and their model of reinvesting chunks of that money into the squad and developing young talent is working to a point. But Farke is obviously frustrated that he doesn’t have the quality players at his disposal to make a difference this season.
Norwich now face Brentford, Southampton, Wolves and Newcastle in their next four games and they need to win at least two of those games (probably three) to give themselves a fighting chance.
They are already in this kind of situation. If they get even further away by January 1, they may decide it’s not worth spending much in the next transfer window and just accept their fate.
This is the sad reality for Norwich.
