Facebook and Instagram Messenger are down and you can now blame Meta for it

[ad_1]

Many users complained about issues with Facebook and Instagram Messenger on Wednesday, and it’s officially time to blame someone else for them.

That someone else is Meta, the new name for Facebook Inc., which Zuckerberg showcased at a Facebook Connect event last week.

Zuckerberg said he chose the name to reflect the company’s new focus on virtual reality (i.e. metaverse). Of course, there were a lot of people who saw it as nothing more than an attempt to rename Facebook after years of criticism.

Regardless, it didn’t take long for Meta to become the new villain with the blackout, which seemed to affect some users on Instagram and Facebook.

Users (including us) were unable to access Messenger on Facebook or Instagram on Wednesday afternoon.

The Down Detector website recorded thousands of issues with Facebook Messenger as of Wednesday around 2 p.m. ET. The outage appeared to affect users in Canada, the United States and many other countries.

Facebook Meta did not immediately address the outage, but the issue appeared to be resolved later that afternoon.
