The New Jersey correctional officer who has been charged by federal authorities with “assault and physical punishment” of prisoners now faces new allegations of abuse after two former inmates join a lawsuit describing the alleged abusive environment he infected in a state prison.
Last month, two former prisoners were added to a lawsuit against John Makos, a correctional officer at Bayside State Prison, alleging the Millville man repeatedly beat them in the prison kitchen.
The lawsuit, which was originally filed by a prisoner last year in the state’s Superior Court, now alleges that the additional men were “subjected to systematic violence” by Makos and another officer, one of whom was jumped over by officers and punched and kicked in the ribs, as well as a crate of milk thrown over his head. The other alleges that he was beaten with padlocks and batons by Makos and was permanently injured by the assaults.
