Southlake Schools are reassessing books teachers can keep in their classroom libraries after a backlash against an anti-racist book.
Why it matters: The affluent suburb of Tarrant County has become a front line in the national struggle over how schools deal with issues of race and personal identity.
What’s happening: A fourth-grade teacher was reprimanded by the school district last week after a parent complained that a child was bringing Tiffany Jewell’s “This Book is Anti-Racist” home.
Carroll ISD teachers have received mandatory training on the new district-wide book rules.
What They Say: “How am I supposed to know what 44 parent groups find offensive? a Carroll teacher told NBC News.
“We were told, ‘Parents are our clients. We have to do whatever they want.’ And that’s what they want. “
Our thought bubble: There is a word for those who oppose anti-racism.
