Cong, BJD lock horns; BJP sex scandal allegations heat up Odisha’s politics

Amid ongoing protests across Odisha over the Mamita Meher murder case, Congress leader Bhakta Charan Das on Saturday called for an investigation by a sitting High Court judge for an impartial investigation alleging that even a response from RTI could not divulge the details of Minister Dibya Shankar Mishra’s tour which is currently under a cloud of suspicion.

Demanding the deportation of MoS (Home), Das said the details of the appeal of the minister, the deceased teacher as well as the defendant Gobinda Sahu could bring all those responsible for the crime to justice.

“We had requested the details of the minister’s tour. He was with Gobinda and the girl who died on September 18, 19 and 20 in Raipur. However, we are unable to obtain details of his tour during the same period. The investigation of the case should be carried out under the supervision of a sitting judge of the High Court of Orissa, ”said Das.

Meanwhile, attacking the Congress leader, BJD spokesman Sasmit Patra asked Das to clarify if he had any connection with Gobinda, as his son Kranti Das is one of the administrators of the BJD. Mahaling College.

Patra further alleged a connection between Congress and the BJP. “The son of Congress leader Bhakta Das, Kranti, is also a director of Mahaling college and Das also approved the money from the MPLAD fund. Thus, Das should be questioned by the party,” Patra said.

Meanwhile, BJP chief Bijoy Mohapatra claimed today that in addition to belatedly bringing the diary of the case to court, the police weakened the case from the start and tried to weaken further.

“A sexual racket was going on in the hostel at Mahaling College. And, these facts are produced by the police in court. A plot is underway to further weaken the case, ”Mohapatra alleged.

Former DGP Sanjeev Marik said that this was (of a sex scandal) a serious allegation and that police should investigate everyone involved. “This sexual racket seems to be the main reason for the crime,” he added.
