Who is to blame for the LSU football quarterback’s predicament? Is Billy Napier at stake?

[ad_1]

BATON ROUGE Garrett Nussmeier was the heir apparent to the quarterback, at least until he was not.

What’s the lesson here?

It’s the same the mailbag preached all season. LSU’s problems in attack go beyond whoever plays the quarterback. Nussmeier didn’t suddenly improve an offensive line by missing two starters. Or produce a coherent target at the wide receptor. Or stop offensive coordinator Jake Peetz from dusting off the Wildcat for no apparent reason.

NOTES: Why LSU’s offense received a “D” in the loss to the Razorbacks

LSU coach Ed Orgeron stayed with Nussmeier in the 16-13 overtime loss to Arkansas. On the contrary, it proved that starter Max Johnson has been blamed too much during the season. A blame that neither Johnson nor Nussmeier deserves.

Let’s move on to the mailbag.

What was the game plan with the QBs? Why not start Nussmeier if he was going to play all the time? Why not go back to Max’s since Nussmeier didn’t have a warm hand? Antoine

To answer your first question, the game plan was very quick by the seat of your pants to begin with. Nussmeiers’ touchdown pass to Jack Bech was enough for Orgeron to keep him in the game. If LSU hadn’t scored there, it’s likely Johnson will return the pitch.

As the fourth quarter unfolded, Orgeron didn’t want to put Johnson in a bad spot. Keep in mind that this is the same logic that kept Nussmeier parked in Alabama. It was an instinctive call and Orgeron thought Nussmeier was the best option.

At least better than Tyrion Davis-Price lined up in the Wildcat.

When will LSU hire Billy Napier? Todd

Napier !!!!!!! Keldrick

LSU athletic director Scott Woodward didn’t fire Orgeron to hire a Sun Belt coach who never won that league. This is no blow to Napier, which has done wonders for Louisiana-Lafayette. The Cajuns are on track to finally win the Sun Belt this season.

The story continues

For Napier to have a chance, Woodward will need to get a bunch of our. He’s targeting established trainers with Power 5 experience, like his friend Jimbo Fisher from Texas A&M. There is also the internal policy of trying to sell LSU brass by hiring from a state school they deem inferior.

I do not defend it. This is how it works in Baton Rouge.

Could ULM beat LSU next week? Brian

If you’re hoping for an upheaval I think the best you will get is a rock fight. Neither team is playing well at the moment. LSU’s talent is superior, but that hasn’t counted much this year. The only thing I’ve learned in the short time I’ve spent covering this team is to never assume anything. Ironically, I used to say the same about the rhythm of the ULM too.

Is Joe Brady on the shortlist? Brady

Brady saw firsthand how much effort it takes to recruit at a high level. He prefers to stay in the NFL and be a head coach there. It’s always worth a phone call, but I don’t think Brady will bite.

Some at LSU also didn’t like the way Brady rushed to the Carolina Panthers after accepting overtime after the 2019 nationals season. There’s no doubt Brady was instrumental in it. this success as the coordinator of the passing game, but the power brokers do not forget it.

I have Mel Tuckers’ phone number. Russel

Do you want to pass it on?

Which side will you pick next week when the South End Zone Squad arrives? DJ

I’ve already dubbed next week’s LSU vs. ULM game the Hunsucker Bowl. That’s probably the only bowl these two teams will play this season anyway. I look forward to seeing old friends from ULM again in my new environment.

As for the South End Zone team, it’s the rowdy bunch of ULM fans nominated for their seats at Malone Stadium. Keep an eye out for Tiger Stadium. You will know it when you see them.
