SOUTHWEST OF MIAMI-DADE, FLA. (WSVN) – A teacher at John A. Ferguson High School has been arrested after he allegedly had sex with a 16-year-old student.

Last month, rumors circulated in Miami-Dade High School about an inappropriate relationship between a teacher and a student.

Today, Aaron Hamid faces several charges arising from inappropriate conduct involving a student.

The 27-year-old was a high school social studies teacher, located at 15900 SW 56th St.

“It’s still a shock,” said one student. “My whole school is just trying to get over it.”

He surrendered to the police on Monday.

Hamid was released from prison on Tuesday.

On October 25, the parents of the school’s students were made aware of the investigation. In the appeal, the school principal said: “On October 22, 2021, an alleged incident involving a sexual offense involving an employee was reported to the school. The Miami-Dade Schools Police Department, in conjunction with the school administration, is investigating this incident. “

According to the police, Hamid had a sexual relationship with the student for about a year.

A friend of the victim reported the relationship to the administrators.

The victim later told detectives that Hamid was his AP history teacher during the pandemic, and they exchanged numbers on the district’s online course platform.

Officers said the 16-year-old girl’s sexual relationship with Hamid ensued while he was her teacher.

“He’s a grown man,” said one parent. “It’s just crazy. Parents need to be more aware of their children and monitor their conversations and who they are talking to, certainly, and have that open communication.

According to arrest reports, the two men had sex in his vehicle as well as at his Cutler Bay residence on several occasions while he was still his teacher.

“It’s a little scary to think that the people you see every day maybe are hiding things,” said one student.

Hamid faces three counts, including offenses against students by authority figures, illegal sexual activity with a specified minor and sexual act with a relative child.

“Very sad because it can happen to my granddaughter,” said one grandparent.

Hamid has been employed by Miami-Dade County Public Schools for four years without a disciplinary history.

M-DCPS officials released a statement following Hamid’s arrest:

“An allegation of this nature against one of our employees is disheartening and unlawful behavior will not be tolerated… That person’s employment with M-DCPS will be immediately terminated and he will be prevented from seeking future work with the District. “

Hamid is due in court next month.
