Filmmaker Rohit Shetty responded to criticism of evil Muslims in Sooryavanshi and asked why his Hindu villains hadn’t created a problem earlier. In a new interview, Rohit said that while making the film, there was no specific idea behind creating villains out of a certain caste or religion. In an interview with The Quint, Rohit Shetty was asked about the “bad Muslim-good Muslim” account in Sooryavanshi. The director replied, “If I ask you a question – Jaykant Shikre (the Singham antagonist, tried by Prakash Raj) was a Hindu, then came to this universe (Rohit Shetty’s detective universe which includes Singham, Singham Returns and Simmba), a Hindu Godman who was the villain. In Simmba, Durva Yashwant Ranade (played by Sonu Sood) was a Maharashtrian. In all three films, the negative forces were Hindu. Why was that not a problem? “
Sooryavanshi revolves around the chase between cops and terrorists who intend to attack Mumbai with a massive RDX horde. All of the film’s main villains are shown to have crossed the Pakistani border and remain in India.

He added: “If there is a terrorist who comes from Pakistan, what caste will he be? We (the creators of Sooryavanshi) are not talking about caste. The filmmaker also said that some segments of people saw him as problematic, but he never “thought of it that way” when making the film. He added: “There is a thought with which a movie is made. We never thought of it that way. Why are we talking about this ? If we have a sleeper cell, then which caste will be a sleeper cell? Why is a bad and a good person linked to a caste, when we as creators never thought about it? If it was wrong, everyone would have talked about it … not many people talk about it, it’s their point of view that they have to change, not us.
