Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has claimed former President Donald Trump was guilty of the Jan.6 riot on Capitol Hill.
Christie has fought with Trump over allegations of electoral fraud in 2020 and the state of the Republican Party. He went on to say that rehashing the fraud allegations ruins the image of all Republicans, even when they try to be non-partisan. Christie also said she called Trump on Jan.6 to quell protesters to no avail.
Christie told The View co-host Sunny Hostin that Trump was responsible for the riot.
“Where people miss is that they are talking about his speech that day,” he said. “I don’t think it was the speech that did it. I think that’s all he has done since election night.”

Christie slammed Trump on Nov. 7 at a Republican Jewish Coalition conference in Las Vegas, saying he couldn’t lead the party if he continued to push voter fraud.
“If all we’re going to do is talk about grievance politics and issue statements saying you’re canceling the 2020 election or Republicans shouldn’t be voting in 22-24, I mean, that can’t to be the leader of our party, “Christie said.” It’s just not possible. “
Trump issued a statement on Christie’s accusation the next day.
“Chris Christie, who just gave a speech at the Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC) in Las Vegas, was absolutely slaughtered by his claims that Republicans need to step out of the past, which means electoral fraud of 2020,” said Trump.
Christie continued back and forth on Monday, saying Trump had “no evidence” to support the allegations of voter fraud.
“You cannot come out as President of the United States behind the seal of the Presidency in the East Room of the White House and say to the American people, ‘The elections are stolen’ if you don’t present any evidence.”
The former president “incited these people from that moment on. The speech at the end, quite frankly, I thought it wasn’t as important as the two months before the speech,” he added.
“He took no action that day to stop it.”
