LETTER: Pitts Blames the Wrong People

Re: Leonard Pitts’ October 26 column accuses “you people” (conservatives) of doing things the radical left is promoting. Space only allows the refutation of certain things:

“You don’t recognize… some of us have seceded from a common cause, from common ideals, from a common hope. … ”We see what happened to the common cause, to ideals, to hope when we look at what once were our big cities (San Francisco, Portland, New York) now run by progressives.

“You don’t believe in freedom of speech. We are not the ones who ban books, who say what words can be used, who ban conservative thinking on Facebook, Twitter, the big publishers refusing to print books with conservative views.

“You don’t cherish the rule of law. The BLM “peaceful protesters” burned down our towns, robbed shops, threw Molotov cocktails at the police, want to fund the police. It is not the Conservatives who refuse to arrest criminals by giving them “free jail” cards.

“You don’t value facts and reason. The Conservatives do not want either party to change proven institutions or traditions that have served this country well to give themselves more power. Too many politicians and the media only use facts to support their narrative. Reason has come out the window with a lot of things progressives and President Biden are proposing.

“You don’t know the ambitious and transformational ideas that have made this country a great country. Like the borders open, paying $ 450,000 to separated families when they cross the border illegally, trying to make it a socialist third world country, with schools giving white children guilt trips pretending they are white supremacists, saying that minorities are inferior because of the color of the skin? Teach the truth – good, bad, ugly. There is plenty to go around.
