UPDATE: Parents say hazing incident involved broomstick in Wall HS football team locker room
An investigation has been opened into an allegation of hazing within the Wall High School football program, NJ Advance Media has learned.
In a phone call Tuesday in response to a request for comment on the soccer hazing allegations, Wall Township Education Council chairman Ralph Addonizio read a statement on behalf of the district confirming the ‘investigation.
“After learning of the allegation, we immediately contacted the relevant authorities,” Addonizio said in the statement. “An investigation is underway and the school district is cooperating fully. We cannot comment further on an ongoing investigation into a student case. “
Addonizio declined to elaborate on the statement.
Wall’s football coach Tony Grandinetti and schools superintendent Tracy Handerhan did not respond to phone messages Tuesday seeking comment.
Captain Greg Carpino of the Wall Police Department referred questions about the hazing allegations to the Monmouth County District Attorney’s Office.
Mark Spivey, public information officer for MCPO, declined to comment via email, writing that “minors’ records are inherently confidential, and therefore we cannot confirm or deny any details about them.”
