Wolf blamed for breaking election law, says he asked his wife to cast the ballot

Gov. Tom Wolf apologized on Tuesday for his honest mistake by asking his wife to hand in her mail-in ballot for the November 2 election.

In a morning interview on the same KDKA radio show where he admitted to violating an election law two weeks ago, Wolf apologized.

I am sorry. I did it. It was an honest mistake, Wolf said. But yes, it was. I guess they say ignorance of the law is no defense, but I’m sorry, I apologize

Wolf admitted to asking his wife Frances to cast her ballot.

It was my idea. She said I was coming in, he said. I said you could take mine with you.

In Pennsylvania, election law prohibits anyone other than the voter from delivering a completed mail-in or mail-in ballot in most cases. The exceptions are if a voter with a disability designates a representative to deliver their ballot in their place or if a voter authorizes another person to return a ballot by emergency mail. Breaking this law can be punishable by up to a year in prison, a fine of up to $ 1,000, or both.

Kyle King, spokesperson for the York County Prosecutor’s Office, said Tuesday the office was not commenting on the existence of an investigation. He further declined to say whether a complaint had been received about how the governor voted.

But Wolf didn’t hesitate to admit his mistake during the radio interview.

He said: Hey, I just want to make a confession that wasn’t the first time I made a mistake in my life and it won’t be the last. I’m pretty sure.
