Lockport Mayor Ed Reinhardt resigns over sexual harassment allegations

LOCKPORT, Louisiana (WVUE) – Lockports city mayor Ed Reinhardt has resigned amid allegations of sexual harassment.

City council made the announcement at a meeting last night. They said late last month that a city employee filed a sexual harassment complaint against Mayor Reinhardt, which sparked the investigation.

They say the evidence from the investigation supports the claims.

After reviewing the investigation report, the council as a whole took the position that it would not accept anything less than a resignation from the mayor. And yesterday Ad Reinhardt resigned. The City of Lockport takes any allegations of sexual harassment seriously and the City will not tolerate any sexual harassment from its officials or employees, Lockport attorney Chris Huddleston said.

Former mayor Paul Champagne will assume the duties of interim mayor until a special election is held in November 2022.
