MONTREAL – The Government of Quebec is launching its first advertising campaign to fight racism and end prejudice.

Benoit Charette, the minister responsible for combating racism, says the campaign responds to one of the recommendations made in the report of the Action Group against Racism, published last December.

The campaign will run in French and English on television, in newspapers and online from Monday.

Charette, who is also Minister of the Environment and Climate Change, explains that everyone living in Quebec has the right to feel at home.

The Action Against Racism made several other recommendations in its report, including the appointment of a minister responsible for an anti-racism file.

The report also proposed a ban on random checks by police officers on the basis of race, religion, social condition or ethnicity.

He called for increased representation of visible minorities in the public service and an end to discrimination in the rental market.

– This report by La Presse Canadienne was first published in French on November 22, 2021.
