The British Horseracing Authority announced on Monday that the long-awaited hearing in a disciplinary case against jockey Robbie Dunne, who is the subject of a harassment complaint by fellow rider Bryony Frost, will begin on November 30, with five additional days set aside for the case if necessary.
Dunne will face a slew of charges at next week’s hearing, several of which fall within the scope of rule (J) 19, covering conduct detrimental to horse racing.
In addition to a blanket charge that he engaged in “the intimidation and harassment of a fellow licensed jockey between February 13, 2020 and September 3, 2020”, other charges relate to alleged incidents at Stratford on July 8, 2020, in Uttoxeter on August 17, 2020 and in Southwell on September 3, 2020.
The case of the BHA is that Dunne’s behavior on the days in question involved “abusing and verbally threatening a fellow jockey”, and was a violation of both Rules (J) 19 and J (20), which cover “Act in a violent or inappropriate manner”.
The existence of a possible disciplinary case involving Frost first became apparent after his success over Frodo in the Grade One King George VI Chase in Kempton on December 26, 2020, the highlight of the Christmas schedule. It was then reported in February that the complaint was against Dunne and concerned a race at Southwell last September in which Dunne’s mount Cillian’s Well suffered a fatal fall.
Many details of the case were later revealed when a 120-page report, compiled by BHA investigators examining Frost’s complaint, leaked to the Sunday Times last month. This included an alleged threat from Dunne to “injure” Frost during a race, which followed an earlier threat to “put [Frost] through a wing [of a fence]”.

The report also suggests that investigators struggled to obtain evidence from other jockeys, and that “there is a cultural problem. [in the weighing room] in which threatening behavior is tolerated and not reported ”.
Dunne has denied the allegations against him when questioned by investigators and neither runner has commented since the report was leaked last month.
