Vijayawada: An elderly couple attempted suicide by consuming poison on Monday at their residence in Gudivada town, Krishna district. The couple, identified as K Murali and his wife Rani, said they were mistreated and insulted by Gudivada circle inspector Durga Rao after filing a complaint related to a family dispute. According to Gudivada police, the couple have filed a complaint claiming their daughter-in-law has been preventing them from meeting their grandson since their son’s death a few months ago. Their son had ended his life because of a marital dispute. About three weeks ago, their daughter-in-law gave birth to a baby boy, but they were not allowed to see him. The cops tried to counsel the family by setting up a reunion between the couple and their stepdaughter and later suggested going to court as the case is a civil matter. The couple alleged that Durga behaved rudely and mistreated them, which forced them to decide to end their lives. Fortunately, their family members rushed them to the Vijayawada Government General Hospital at the right time. They say their condition is stable now. A ministerial investigation by a DSP rank officer was launched based on the claims of Murali and Rani.
