FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – Churubusco school system leaders insist allegations of sexual assault against students are irrelevant.
That’s what members of the Smith-Green Community Schools board said on Monday, as a special prosecutor is still examining whether criminal charges can be justified.
The statement released by the board had a defiant tone and was strong in its criticism of parents who took to social media to criticize the District Superintendent for his handling of bullying issues.
Indiana State Police investigated an October 11 incident involving allegations that several students were urinated and possibly sexually assaulted in a locker room at Churubusco College.
There has not yet been a decision on whether criminal charges will be laid.
School officials said in the statement that two retired superintendents outside that area had approved how an internal disciplinary investigation was conducted by the district, including how penalties were imposed.
The district, however, declined to say what discipline had been ordered.
A petition on change.org generated hundreds of signatures calling for the resignation of Smith-Green Superintendent Daniel Hile over the way bullying issues have been handled.
The board statement came in Hile’s defense, complaining of vindictive social media crusades based on lies, half-truths and gossip.
