Rolling Stones fans react after COTA accuses GPS app, CapMetro
While thousands of people were inside the circuits of the Americas to watch the Rolling Stones play on Saturday night, thousands more were outside the venue, stuck in traffic, trying to get in.
AUSTIN, Texas – The Circuit of the Americas blames outside recruiting shortages and a GPS application glitch for bumper-to-bumper traffic heading to the highly anticipated Rolling Stones concert on Saturday night.
Many fans sat in traffic for hours to enter the show. Most were only able to attend part of the show while others were unable to participate at all. Fans say they sat in traffic for between two and three hours.
While most of the fans were trying to catch the show, not everyone sitting in traffic was heading towards COTA. Corbin Sherrell sat in this traffic for hours trying to reach his wife after his car broke down on the side of the road. He says his wife’s car broke down after sitting in the sea of red lights for nearly three hours following a Thanksgiving grocery store down the street.
Sherrel says he and his family have lived near COTA for some time now and the trafficking is nothing new. In fact, he says it happens every time COTA hosts an event.
“I’m worried if I have to go to the hospital. I’m going to have to do a Starflight bill to bring my child to the hospital because I can’t leave my street. It makes me want to have nothing more to see. with this city or this county, ”he said.
Fans say the concert part was amazing. However, they say going to the site and leaving was a mess and they won’t attend another event until COTA fixes these issues. “I think COTA needs to understand that. Every time we go to COTA there’s some sort of traffic or logistics issue,” said Jackie Padgett of Austin.
COTA issued a statement putting the blame on certain things for the safeguard. They say this was in part due to shortages of outside personnel as well as GPS application issues.
COTA itself is a small group of caring people who want to provide happiness and fond memories, not frustration. To organize large events, the team hires and must rely on external recruiting companies to provide mobility assistance services, parking attendants, food vendors, ushers and cleaning staff. These organizations, much like most, have reported that hiring has been incredibly difficult lately, and we appreciate everyone who has done their best to make the Rolling Stones concert a great experience.
Last night, a widely used GPS traffic app incorrectly displayed a major open road as closed and additionally displayed a private driveway as an open road. Thousands of cars have been misdirected, turning heavy traffic into a mess.
COTA blames GPS app glitches for traffic issues at Rolling Stones concert
Fans say they’ve been stuck on roads around COTA like Elroy Road and Pearce Lane for hours trying to get to the site.
Two days before the concert, COTA sent an email recommending that spectators download the Waze app to find the best route to their parking lot.
By email: “When driving to COTA, we recommend that you use the Waze app to easily find the best route to a particular parking lot. Open the Waze app and search for your parking lot. (Example: Lot F – COTA). “
COTA is believed to refer to the Waze app that they recommended fans use when talking about GPS app issues. “From a Waze fault standpoint, I’m having a hard time with that one,” said Houston’s Stacy London.
London says she waited in traffic for hours, but was one of the lucky ones who finally got in. She says Waze has been helpful.
“I really can’t fault any of the [the traffic issues] on Waze. Yes [Waze] directed me to a place other than COTA, I could blame Waze, but they took me to my plight. It was just hard to get there, ”London said.
COTA declined the opportunity to do an on-camera interview with FOX 7 Austin.
