“We could have had anyone – anyone is jumping this team better than me right now. I’m just not winning enough. It’s clear and simple.”

Matt Dunstone isn’t about to apologize, especially when it comes to his team’s change in roster ahead of the Olympic Curling Trials.

Going 0-4 so far, Dunstone has denied any suggestion that a change to third place is the reason for his team’s disappointing start this week at the SaskTel Center in Saskatoon.

“No, I haven’t been good enough,” he said. “It’s clear and simple. We could have had anyone – anyone is jumping this team better than me right now. I just don’t earn enough. It is clear and simple. The guys are playing phenomenally. I haven’t done it sometimes and I don’t sometimes. It’s just the way curling is.

On the eve of the Olympic trials, the Dunstone Ice Rink had to make a change to third position after Braeden Moskowy retired for personal reasons.

He was replaced by Colton Lott, who had 86 percent of his shots on Tuesday.

Reporters wondered if the change had affected the team’s performance and chemistry so far.

“Who knows,” replied second Kirk Muyres. “We’ll never know, unfortunately, but Colton came along and played 90 percent in four games. He’s one of the best players in the game and it’s kind of an opportunity for him to show it off and everyone has seen it. I think any alignment here could go from 0 to 4. This is the real reality. We all know that. It was just our turn and that’s how it goes. Who knows, we can go to 4 and 0 now and finish with that 4-4 record. “

While it’s disappointing, Muyres says they’re trying not to let the pressure get on them.

“We try not to put too much pressure on this event at one point, too much throughout the year,” Muyres explained. “We go to curling every year because we love it and it’s a big event on the calendar. At the same time, it hurts because you put so much effort into the game, in general, and every time you don’t win and lose, it hurts. If it doesn’t hurt you, it means you probably aren’t working that hard. It hurts. It’ll sting for a while, but it’s what keeps you coming back for more every day. It just gives us more fuel for the fire for the next event we play. “
