Critique of the popular vote outside the base

Critique of the popular vote outside the base

Exhibit A shows just how misinformed so many on the Right are: John B Harvie’s letter “The National Popular Vote is a Double Edged Sword” and its hypothetical scenario, where voters in Florida would be stripped of their rights to vote. vote in an election where Democrats would win Florida and a Republican would win the popular vote. That’s the point. Democrats across America have been disenfranchised year after year by winning the popular vote in this country in all but two elections over the past 20 years, but have only had one Democratic president , that is to say before January 20, 2021. The Electoral College, on purpose, now always favors Republicans and deprives Democrats of the right to vote, throughout the country.

Principle should take precedence over personal interest in voting

Regarding the National Public Vote movement, one writer wondered how Democrats would feel if a majority of Florida voters voted for the Democratic presidential candidate, while the majority of other American voters voted for the Republican. How would Democrats want the votes in the Florida Electoral College to go to Republicans? Isn’t the conflict between belief in principles and self-interest one of the key factors in what one might call human authenticity? If you think something is the right thing to do, wouldn’t you want to do it even if it’s against your personal best interests? You might not want to do it, but you will do it anyway because it’s the right thing to do.

The “slow but constant” analogy is a losing proposition

I would like to refer to a recent writer’s analog, “Give Biden Time,” with an analogy of mine. The writer refers to “winning the race slowly and steadily”. The race Biden is in, I would compare it to a mile on a four-lap track. Biden is halfway through the first round and is in last place considering what his efforts have accomplished. Another three and a half years of this performance, and he will be doubled several times and will be dead last at the finish.
