Microsoft Edge recently acquired a feature that allows users to pay for their online purchases in installments. It’s called buy now, pay later (BNPL), and it’s currently being tested on Microsoft Edge Dev and Canary. The option drew criticism from fans and browser users alike who expressed frustration in the comments section of the post announcing the feature.
The center of most complaints is the belief that Microsoft Edge is getting bloated with shopping features rather than offering a pure browsing experience. BNPL is optional, but critics are against the concept of Edge incorporating purchasing functionality.
“It’s awesome how quickly you can waste years of hard work and goodwill with a ridiculous feature like this,” vyrotek said. “The Edge teams need to pause and think about how they thought it was a good idea. Even Bing’s features are getting too aggressive.”

Cameron_Bush has asked Microsoft to reconsider the addition. “This sounds like a horrible idea that will only be seen as a shameless cash grab by the media. Please reconsider pushing this for a living. The negative press this feature is going to receive is not worth it. sadness.”
GNS722 echoed similar sentiments. “As many have mentioned above, don’t keep adding such bloat. Edge has become a very good alternative to others, but if you go down this path it won’t be.”
An examinedliving comment contrasts the open nature of parts of Microsoft with the addition of BNPL to Edge. “It looks like Microsoft has been divided into competing Bible entities. One is pure and creates things like VS Code and Powertoys. The other is the demonic beast that comes up with this ridiculous, insulting garbage.”
There are several pages of comments, most of which are negative. Edge has several features that help people save money. Critics seem to believe that such functionality should be left to extensions and dedicated websites rather than being built into a browser.
