A 23-year-old Dalit has been arrested in the murder case of a Dalit family in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. Local police say he carried out the murders with unidentified accomplices. Police also said the girl, who was raped and killed, was not a minor and that the articles of the POCSO Act are removed from the case.

Police said the man they arrested lives in a brickyard behind the victims’ house. He was harassing the young woman.

The bodies of the family of four were found at their home Thursday morning. Police said they were attacked with a sharp weapon. The girl’s body was found in a room inside the house, the other three bodies were found in the yard

Senior Prayagraj police official Prem Prakash tweeted details of the new arrest, claiming the 23-year-old’s name was Pawan Saroj and that he had sent the woman a “I hate you” message. a few hours before his death.

The woman, born in 1996, was a promising student, he said in another tweet. “She was preparing for various exams after graduating from a local university,” the tweet read.

Relatives of the family suspected the murders had been committed by a neighboring family involved in a property dispute with the victims. The alleged family of the attackers belonged to what are called the upper castes.

After filing a complaint, 8 people from the upper caste were arrested. Police said they had yet to find any evidence implicating the family. Investigations against them are still ongoing.

A relative of the victims alleged that the police were trying to force a compromise between the two families in the land dispute.

“The police were forcing the murder victims to compromise. Sushil Kumar (a police officer) came to see us and pressured us to compromise. The police used to sit at their (accused) homes. “the family member told media.
