Jacqui Lambie: Shocking allegation dog noises were made as senator spoke

There was a shocking allegation that a senator disrespected Jacqui Lambie in parliament, just hours after the release of an explosive report.

A senator has been accused of growling and making doggy noises while Jacqui Lambie spoke in parliament, just hours after the release of an explosive report on the building’s workplace culture.

Fiery scenes erupted during Question Time on Tuesday as two senators rose to denounce the “inappropriate” behavior they claimed to have taken place in a section of the chamber while Senator Lambie was standing.

Greens Senator Sarah Hanson-Young, who was visibly outraged, said she was not sure who was responsible but that “it happened”.

“I don’t think it is appropriate, given what has been said today, to have grunts and dog sounds coming from this side of the room while a female member of this place is stand up, ”she said.

“It happened. I don’t know who is responsible for it, but it’s inappropriate.

“And if we want to change the culture and the summit, that means all of us.”

Labor Senator Penny Wong then rose to support Senator Hanson-Young’s request.

“I actually said grumbling,” she said.

“And I would like to ask one of the senators to that end, maybe do the right thing and step aside.”

“At least admit it. Damn, you’re tough, aren’t you… I mean, growling.

Senate Speaker Slade Brockman said he had not heard the growl in question, but if it did, the responsible senator would have to step down.

“I did not hear the particular incident that you raised,” he said.

“If that were to happen, I would ask the concerned senator to think about it and to step aside if he has done what was said.”

The incident came just three hours after the release of a damning report at the parliamentary workplace, which revealed that one in three people had been sexually harassed.

Hundreds of current and former employees have been questioned during the investigation by Gender Discrimination Commissioner Kate Jenkins, which was established after the alleged rape of Brittany Higgins.

Senator Lambie had asked about the housing crisis in Tasmania when the alleged incident occurred.

“The average Hobart tenant pays almost a third of their income to keep a roof over their head and it’s a good day,” she said.

“We have people sleeping in their cars, families camping in friends’ living rooms while your government conducts another housing affordability survey. “

Senator Simon Birmingham – who is not supposed to have made the growl – responded that the government has pursued various policies and investments to support access to housing across Australia.

Senator Lambie went on to two more questions, citing the fact that there were thousands of people on the waiting list for social housing.

“My staff are taking calls from people on edge,” she said.

“And we have to tell them that there is nothing we can do.

“The accommodation is just not there. Your government holds the purse strings minister, we have seen it through the Covid.

“It’s happening on your watch, you have the power to change that.

“Why don’t you pay for the social housing that we know we need? “
