Netizens criticize new Twitter CEO Parag Agarwal for old racism tweet

[ad_1]

Parag Agarwal, Twitter’s new Indian-born CEO replacing Jack Dorsey, was trolled on his own platform on Tuesday over an 11-year-old tweet containing racist comments.

In 2010, when he wasn’t even a Twitter employee, Agrawal quoted a comedian poking fun at racism and Islamophobia in America.

“If they don’t distinguish between Muslims and extremists, then why should I distinguish between whites and racists,” Agrawal said in the tweet posted on October 26, 2010.

Questioning this, Republican Ken Buck, who represents Colorado’s fourth congressional district, asked how users can trust Twitter’s new CEO to treat everyone equally.

However, Agrawal was quick to clarify his comments to a user. “I was quoting Asif Mandvi from The Daily Show. The article you are reading seems too deep for my current mental state,” he posted.

Agrawal also posted a post on Facebook and noted that the social media giant is simply a waste of time. “Facebook is like a prison. You sit down, waste time, have a profile picture, write on the walls and get screwed by guys you don’t know (via gizmodo),” he wrote .

Agrawal previously tweeted, “Facebook is seriously messed up. The https settings revert to http when using an app that doesn’t do https.”

Meanwhile, Google CEO Sundar Pichai tweeted Monday: “I wish you the best for @jack, and congratulations @paraga and @btaylor – excited about the future of Twitter!”

“Wish you all the best, @jack, and congratulations @paraga and @btaylor – excited for the future of Twitter,” Pichai said in a tweet.

Agrawal will replace Dorsey as CEO in 2022. Agrawal joins a small group of CEOs of Indian origin who run technology companies in the United States.
