A member of the US Congress posted the Christmas photo of his family – showing off, his wife and children wielding guns. On Twitter, Rep. Thomas Massie, a Republican from Kentucky, captioned the photo, “Merry Christmas! Ps. Santa, please bring ammo.” He now faces criticism for sharing the job following a school shooting in Michigan.

Gun control activists have condemned the photo of Massie, including Fred Guttenberg, whose daughter Jamie was killed in the 2018 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. “Since we share family photos, here are mine,” Futtenberg tweeted, sharing a photo of Jamie before his death and one of his gravestone.

“One is the last photo I took of Jaime, the other is where she is buried because of the Parkland School shooting,” Guttenberg wrote. “The Michigan school shooter and his family were also taking pictures like yours.”

The Parkland shooting was one of the deadliest school shootings, with 17 people killed.

Last week, a shooting suspect opened fire on a high school in Oxford, Mich., Killing four students and injuring seven others. The alleged shooter, Ethan Crumbley, 15, faces 24 counts, including four counts of first degree murder and one count of terrorism causing death. His parents were charged with four counts of manslaughter, to which they pleaded not guilty.

Six Michigan teens reportedly made violent threats against several schools in the aftermath of the tragedy and are now facing charges. Another has been charged with suspected possession of a weapon in a school zone, the Wayne County District Attorney’s Office said on Saturday.

A woman who said she was from Oxford, Michigan, also replied to Massie’s tweet. “Here’s a photo. This is my grieving hometown. I live in Oxford Michigan,” wrote Pauline Criel, sharing a photo of what appear to be people gathering for a big vigil.

Massie began tweeting responses and retweeting people who weighed in on the gun photo, including President Trump’s former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci, who slammed Massie on Twitter.

Massie also retweeted people who supported him, including conservative commentators Todd Starnes and Candace Owens, who wrote in part, “Can someone explain to me how they found out about the school shooting of Michigan is @RepThomasMassie’s fault for sharing a photo of him and his family with legal guns? ”

CBS News has reached out to Massie for comment and is awaiting a response.
