Travis Scott asks to dismiss Astroworld lawsuit, Live Nation denies allegations

Travis Scott has filed requests to dismiss several lawsuits brought against him following the Astroworld festival tragedy.

The rapper has been named in most of the roughly 300 lawsuits filed in Harris County after 10 people were killed and hundreds more were injured last month when crowds rushed to the stage near the start of Scott’s headline series.

Rolling Stone reports that a rep for Scott said the rapper “is not legally responsible” for the tragedy. Scott has denied all of the allegations against him in 11 different lawsuits and his representative added that he would likely file more dismissal applications.

The news comes as Live Nation and its subsidiary ScoreMore, the promoters of Astroworld, on Monday, December 6, denied in documents filed all allegations made against them. The Harris County Sports and Convention Corporation, which owns the NRG Park site where Astroworld was held, did not ask for the dismissal, however.

Due to the volume of lawsuits and the complexity of court proceedings, lawyers last week filed a joint petition with the Texas Supreme Court to consolidate the cases before a single judge.

The Houston Police Department and plaintiffs’ attorneys continue to gather information as part of their respective investigations into what went wrong at the festival, which will help them determine who is most to blame.

Lawyer Ben Crump, who represents several attendees including the family of nine-year-old Ezra Blount, who was killed at the festival, has targeted Live Nation in particular for its responsibility as the world’s largest show promoter.

As a result, several families of the victims rejected Scott’s offer to cover the funeral costs of their loved ones.

Richard Mithoff, family lawyer for 14-year-old victim John Hilgert, who recently filed a lawsuit against the rapper for the tragedy, said the offer was “demeaning and truly inappropriate.”

“It was not an offer [the Hilgerts] were going to seriously consider it, ”Mithoff told Rolling Stone.

“Of all the things this case is about, this is the least of the concerns. This family is determined to make changes and make sure it never happens again at a concert. “
