GIBSON CITY – Gibson Regional Hospital in Gibson City has agreed to pay around $ 292,000 to settle claims it failed to reimburse overpayments from Medicare, Medicaid and other government programs, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of Illinois.

Federal authorities alleged that the hospital violated the False Claims Act by failing to reimburse overpayments received between March 9, 2014 and March 24, 2020.

Settlement resolves allegations that the hospital “knowingly” withheld overpayments under alleged practices of keeping overpayments of less than $ 10, over a year old, duplicates, enforced. inappropriate to separate claims and / or payments for which the payer had failed to request reimbursement three times, according to the US attorney’s office.

The state will receive $ 84,000 from the settlement and the federal government will receive approximately $ 208,000.
