Thomas Tuchel’s interview with Chelsea’s official website ahead of tonight’s game is now over, and everything revolves around the team’s recent defensive struggles.
We imagine the questions were asked a few days ago, before the coronavirus wave grabbed three other Chelsea players, and there could be several different questions if that happens now.
Overall, Tuchel echoed what we’ve heard from him in some of the press conferences we’ve seen over the past few weeks. He refused to blame the tactical system for admitting it would deviate from it, instead blaming other factors.
“No I can’t see that [system being a problem]. We trust what we do and we use the same system to have consistent results and clean sheets. It’s not as if we were just conceding, we also scored a lot, ”explained the manager.
“My feeling from the sidelines is that the defensive input from the forwards is always at the top level, but maybe some things have come together at the same time and it’s making us more uncomfortable than necessary. ”
It’s hard to disagree with him – it would be crazy to activate a system that has been so successful just because of a few bad results. Clearly this setup brings out the best in a lot of our players, and struggling to try to find something that works better is not a wise move in the middle of the season.
