Shannon Sharpe and Skip Bayless share their thoughts on the criticisms Deion Sanders and Travis Hunter received during the national signing day stun.

Professional Football Hall of Fame member Shannon Sharpe is an HBCU alumnus who attended Savannah State University. Sharpe and his colleague Skip Bayless discuss the fallout from the nation’s top-ranked rookie, Travis Hunter, and his decision to attend Jackson State University over the state of Florida, Georgia or Alabama.

Sharpe made several pertinent comments on the subject.

The criticism is absurd. HBCU institutions have produced successful players in the National Football League. Names like Doug Williams, Michael Strahan, Walter Payton, Jerry Rice, Art Shell, Steve McNair, Darius Leonard, and Terron Armstead are often overlooked as HBCU products.

Mike Norvell was selected as Florida State Head Coach against Deion Sanders. Norvell has a less than 8-13 winning record. Still, Florida State opted to extend a head coach’s contract with a loss-making record for five more seasons.

SHANNON SHARPE POINTS 1. “If he had been to FSU or BAMA, you wouldn’t have heard a glance from his detractors.” 2. “You didn’t even know who this kid was. Until he said no to a PWI.” 3. “So now let’s understand what we’re seeing is that this power struggle [PWI vs. HBCU/FCS]”4. If he [Deion Sanders] has the possibility to go and sit at someone’s house, it’s hard to tell them, no. “5. I know Coach Saban [Alabama] works with the head of DB [defensive backs] in Alabama. But, it is not PRIME [Deion Sanders]… You listen, he has your undivided attention. ”
