Why Man United and all Premier League clubs don’t do NoHomeKit after Gary Neville’s criticism

[ad_1]

Premier League clubs cannot participate in Shelter’s #NoHomeKit campaign, a charity for the homeless, which calls on football clubs to wear their alternative bands to raise awareness about sleeping on the streets and unsafe housing , due to existing rules on kits.

The charity initiative is asking teams across the country to wear their away jerseys or third kit, including those playing at home, on Boxing Day and December 27.

Why aren’t Premier League clubs participating?

Shelter sent a detailed presentation to top clubs scheduled to play at home on December 26, which included the proposal that players then sign their first unused strips and auction them off to raise funds.

However, the Premier League has said its clubs cannot participate in the program due to current home kit rules.

A Premier League spokesperson said: “The Premier League receives a large number of requests from charities every season, but we are not able to centrally support them all.

“Clubs have the right to support charitable causes, and we encourage clubs to do so, provided this is in accordance with Premier League rules.”

What has been said about this decision?

Gary Neville has slammed the Premier League for its move, expressing his displeasure at the news on Twitter.

He said: “Imagine turning down a fundraising and homelessness awareness request. A Johnson as a U-turn on his way if the clubs push hard!

Other critics have also questioned the decision, pointing to how the Premier League granted Cristiano Ronaldo a special dispensation to inherit Edinson Cavani’s number seven shirt at Manchester United earlier this season despite rules stating that players must wear the same number while staying at the same club.

The National League has also said it will participate in the Shelter campaign.

Shelter urged all teams to participate in the initiative this holiday season.
