BEN Affleck has now denied blaming ex-wife Jennifer Garner for his alcohol addiction, insisting his comments were taken out of context.
The A-List star tried to clarify comments he made to radio host Howard Stern that he would still drink if he hadn’t parted with Jennifer during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel the last night.

He told chat show host Jimmy that the interpretation of his original comments “hurt me” and assured audiences that he would never tell on his ex.
“I had continued [the show], said how much we respect each other, we care for each other, we care about our kids, put them first, “said Ben.
“It said that I had blamed my ex-wife for my alcoholism, that I was trapped in this marriage, made me the worst, the most callous, the dumbest and the most horrible guy.
“It hurts me.”
In his interview with Shock Jock Stern, Ben lifted the veil on his time with Jennifer Garner, saying he turned to alcohol because he felt “trapped” in their relationship.
Jen, 49, had previously explained how much she dreamed of making their marriage work, telling Vanity Fair: “It was a real marriage.
“It wasn’t for the cameras. And it was a big priority for me to stay there.

But opening up about his battle with alcoholism in his own interview, two-time Oscar winner Ben, 49, said he would drink until he fell asleep to cope with life at home. .
Speaking of his breakup with Jennifer, with whom he has daughters Violet, 16, and Seraphina, 12, and her son Samuel, nine, he began: “The truth is, we took our time, we made the decision. We moved away.
“We had a marriage that didn’t work out.
“We tried because we had children. We didn’t want this to be the model for child marriage.
“We did our best. I knew she was a good mom and hoped she knew I was a good dad.
“I had to get sober, and I admit it.”
However, he then dealt Jennifer a brutal blow by saying that if they were still married, “We would probably be at each other’s throats.”
“I would probably still be drinking. I started drinking alcohol in part because I felt trapped.
Ben made no secret of his drinking problems and received treatment for alcohol dependence in 2001 and 2017.
Poignantly, in August 2017, after their separation, Jennifer was seen driving him to a treatment center to help him on his healing journey.
Ben previously admitted he started drinking more around 2015 and 2016, saying he stayed in the marriage for a while because of their children.
He told Stern: “I was like, ‘I can’t leave because of my kids, but I’m not happy, what am I doing?’
“And what I did was I drank a bottle of scotch and fell asleep on the couch, which turned out not to be the solution.
“But we both felt like we didn’t want this to be the model our kids saw of marriage.”
Ben and Jennifer became friends after meeting on the set of the movie Pearl Harbor in 2000.
At the time, Jennifer was married to actor Scott Foley, 49, while Ben had just started dating pop star Jennifer Lopez, 52.

They reunited two years later on the set of the superhero movie Daredevil, in which they both starred.
And while they were both in a relationship, Ben later claimed that was where they “fell in love”.
A year later, Jennifer divorced Scott, and Ben and J-Lo – who started dating again this year – called off their engagement in January 2004.
Nine months later, in October of that year, Ben and Jennifer had their first public date before getting married on the private Turks and Caicos island, with just two guests, in June 2005.
Fast forward a decade and their separation sent shock waves through Hollywood, with news of their breakup just one day after their tenth wedding anniversary.
A joint statement released by the couple at the time said: “After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce.
“We are moving forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to co-parenting our children, whose privacy we ask for during this difficult time.”
Rumors have circulated about Ben’s friendship with the couple’s nanny, Christine Ouzounian, 34.
However, he and Jennifer have firmly denied that anyone else was involved in their breakup.
In February 2016, Jennifer opened up about her decision to step aside from their marriage, but has been steadfast in her devotion to Ben.
She told Vanity Fair: “I didn’t marry the big movie star, I married him.
“And I would go back and make that decision.” I ran to him on the beach, and I would do it again.

Speaking on American radio show The Howard Stern Show on Tuesday, Ben said that after their decision to go their separate ways, life just got easier, although it did not come without challenges.
He said: “We did it amicably. We did our best.
“Did we have moments of tension? Have we had any custody disagreements? Were things difficult for us? Are we angry?
“Yes, but fundamentally it has always been backed by respect. “
Ben, who is now sober, added, “The cure for addiction is suffering, you are in enough pain that something inside you says, ‘I’m done.’
“I’m lucky because I got to this point before I lost the most important things.
“Not my career or my money – it was my relationship with my kids.”
Ben also opened up about his rekindled relationship with J-Lo during the interview.
He said the couple had previously separated due to public scrutiny.
And he added that the consequences had hit him hard.
He explained, “I got so fucking hurt and angry and felt like a jerk … the idea that people hate you and that they hate you together and being together is poison, ugly and toxic and the thing none of us want to be a part of.
“And who the hell would want to invite them over to dinner?”
