Alex Scott looks stunning as she launches SPOTY 2021

Alex Scott’s outfit choice is once again a topic of conversation on Twitter.

The Football Focus presenter joined Gary Lineker, Gabby Logan and Clare Balding on Sunday night as they crown this year’s Sports Personality of the Year.

Alex, 37, opted for a white and silver striped dress, with glitzy sleeves parted, for the chic Media City event in Manchester.

As the awards show was broadcast on the BBC, many took to Twitter to give their thoughts on the star’s fashion choices.

Amid the many negative jokes on Alex’s set, many fans of the presenter came to her defense – suggesting that her detractors are often some type of person who dislikes seeing a woman involved in sports journalism.

“Alex Scott dressed like an average sacrifice,” joked a cheeky SPOTY viewer online on the Sunday night show.

Another viewer also offered unsolicited fashion advice, tweeting: “Looks like Alex Scott must have worn the last thing the stores had to sell….”

A third added: “Why is Alex Scott dressed as a Star Wars extra?”

There were also unwarranted criticisms of the former footballer in general, with comments like: “I don’t know why but I can’t stand Alex Scott, his voice annoys me.”

While Alex was trending on the social media platform, many pointed out that many of his style critiques came from men.

“Alex Scott looks amazing! A very talented and stylish woman. Haters have no fashion sense,” tweeted one of the many defensive fans on Sunday.

“Suddenly the middle-aged men here have become fashion and hair experts to advise Alex Scott on his look! Bless them,” said another.

“I see Alex Scott being abused again for what she wears,” began a third viewer.

“God damn who cares ?! These men complaining about his looks are disguising their blatant sexism. Now there is the uncomfortable truth for them !!”

A fourth said defiantly: “Tired of all the pathetic digs at Alex Scott’s house. I call it racism or misogyny – take your pick!”

Earlier this year, Alex was forced to respond to criticism over her London accent.

After ex-House of Lords member Digby Jones pointed out her “noticeable inability to pronounce the ‘g’ at the end of a word,” Alex responded by saying she was “proud” of its origin in the working class.

“I come from a working class family in East London, Poplar, Tower Hamlets and I am PROUD,” the star replied on Twitter.

“Proud of the young girl who overcame obstacles, and proud of my accent!

“It’s me, it’s my trip, my courage,” she added at the end of the first of a trio of tweets in July.

“A quick for all the young kids who might not have some type of privilege in life,” she continued.

“Never let judgments about your class, your accent or your appearance hold you back,” she wisely advised.
