Love Actually is arguably the most divisive festive pillar, especially for the fact that despite the film starring nine love stories, there is no LGBTQ + storyline to be found.
There has been a lot of talk about the Christmas movie since its release in 2003, but there’s still a chance you might not know that a script was cut from the movie that could have resolved this review.
Originally, Love Actually featured a story in which Anne Reid played the stern headmistress of the school, who we later learn has a partner called Geraldine (played by Frances de la Tour), who is terminally ill.
In the deleted scenes from the home release, writer / director Richard Curtis noted that he was “very sorry” to lose the scene, but once they cut a bit with Karen (Emma Thompson) and her son in school, that wouldn’t have made sense.

The idea was that later in the movie we suddenly bumped into the director and you realize that no matter how unlikely it seems, that any character you meet in life has their own love story. complicated, ”Curtis explained.
As good as it would have been to have a lesbian relationship in Love Actually, it could have led to a different review of the film as the only gay storyline was tragic.
The screenplay was one of four reported that were cut from Love Actually.

Sadly, another such cut was a lesbian story about “a schoolgirl who fell in love with another schoolgirl,” according to Curtis, which might have helped her avoid some criticism.
Like the other cut script that remains a mystery, this schoolgirl script appears to have been cut before the film was made, but there is another that was deleted after it was filmed.
This brief script would have zoomed in on a photo in Sarah’s (Laura Linney) office of two Kenyan women, cutting to a scene of them talking about how they weren’t happy with their daughters’ choice of partners.
The story continues
According to Curtis, the idea behind it was to show that “love was literally everywhere” in the most obvious way possible (because they were “literally” in a different country of the world).
Love Actually is available now on Amazon Prime Video and Netflix in the UK.
