Will probe congressional sexual exploitation allegation against Goa BJP MP Milind Naik: Sawant

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said the state government would investigate allegations by Congress that BJP lawmaker Milind Naik was involved in a sexual exploitation case.

Naik, who was Goa’s minister of urban development, resigned from the state cabinet on Wednesday after meeting with the chief minister in Panaji.

Goa Congressman Girish Chodankar had accused Naik of being involved in the sexual exploitation of a woman by abusing his power as a cabinet member.

Deputy Chairman of the State Congress Sankalp Amonkar also filed a complaint against Naik with the police and posted an alleged audio conversation between the victim and the MP.

After meeting with the BJP lawmaker on Wednesday evening, CM Sawant told reporters that Naik resigned for a free and fair investigation into the case.

“I accepted the resignation and also sent it to the governor. Whatever evidence Congress produces, we will be investigated,” he said.

The chief minister also said Naik told him he would fight the case on a personal level. The ministerial post will remain vacant and there will be no new integration, he said. “I will manage all of his portfolios,” Sawant said.

State Assembly elections are scheduled for February 2022. Chodankar has called on the police to investigate the allegations against Naik.
