Park City’s winter weather is responsible for many traffic accidents

Last week, the Park City Police Department continued to respond to drivers having difficulty with snow-covered roads as holiday crowds coincided with some of the season’s most severe storms.

The police department said none of the crashes resulted in serious injury.

Jay Randall, a police lieutenant, said the weather caused “one of the biggest weekends we’ve had for landslides.” He said the rain froze before the snow, causing “really, really slippery” conditions.

Randall suggested that drivers stay off the roads if they can under similar conditions. Those who drive in bad weather like the recent storm should drive slowly and increase the distance between them and the vehicle in front of them. He recommended that the driver leave at least 3 or 4 seconds between his vehicle and the vehicle in front in poor conditions rather than the usual 2 seconds.

Some of the cases included:

• Sunday, December 26 at 7:45 p.m., a skidding accident was reported at or near the intersection of Kearns Boulevard and one of the intersections with Cooke Drive.

• on December 26 at 7:43 pm, a police officer reported at least one broken down vehicle in the area of ​​the intersection of avenue Marsac and avenue Hillside.

• On December 26 at 4:51 pm, two skidding accidents were reported in the area of ​​the intersection of Royal Street and Silver Lake Drive. A tow truck was summoned for one of the vehicles but not immediately for the other, police said.

• on December 26 at 4:11 p.m., a vehicle collided with a guard on the US 40.

• On December 26 at 1:57 p.m., several vehicles struggled in the area of ​​Empire Avenue and the Crescent streetcar. Police learned that one of the slips resulted in a vehicle that “almost entered the house.”

• On December 26 at 1:15 pm, a vehicle got stuck on Main Street before being evicted.

Slips were also reported at 9 am on Marsac Avenue, 7 am on Deer Valley Drive and 6 am on US 40. There were also slips on December 24 and 23.

Police, meanwhile, at 2:18 p.m. on December 26, received a complaint from someone on King Road about motorists with two-wheel-drive vehicles in difficulty as they attempted to climb a hill on the steep road. Police were told the vehicles were blocking the road. Another case involving a two-wheel drive vehicle was reported at 1:09 p.m. on December 26, when the car could not have “climbed the mountain and cannot turn around” on the Guardsman Connection Road.
