Steelers’ Diontae Johnson upset with fan criticism on the offensive line

Like all of his Steelers teammates, Diontae Johnson is frustrated with the way things have gone for the team this season. He’s no beat around the bush type, and it was no different in his availability with the media today.

One of the weak spots is the lack of production with the Steelers’ ground play – an issue that has plagued the team for years now.

“Obviously we didn’t handle the ball the way we wanted to,” Johnson said. “But sometimes we run the ball, and we show that we can run the ball. It’s not like the o line isn’t trying to do its job.

“I’m starting to get sick of people talking about the line. If it’s that easy – from a talking person who isn’t on the team and is a regular fan – why don’t you come here and do it for us? Show me, you feel me, that you can do it better than me.

Consistently ranked low in the NFL all season, Pittsburgh’s offensive line has been painful to watch. There have been a few games where running back Najee Harris has managed to get things done, but, for the most part, it’s been a struggle.

Adrian Klemm was dismissed from his position as offensive line coordinator today. When offered a similar job at the University of Oregon last week, the plan was for Klemm to stay with the Steelers until the end of the season. But given the condition of the unit, there is no harm in sending him back earlier than expected.
