A Newark man was arrested this week on charges of sexually assaulting a woman with a knife point at her Plainfield home with two other people, then kidnapping the victim and her three children, have announced the authorities on Thursday.
Jafa McAllister, 33, is charged with four counts of kidnapping and two counts of aggravated sexual assault, which are first degree felonies, as well as several counts of endangering the welfare of a child, of terrorist threats and robbery, burglary and related weapons charges, according to a joint statement from the Plainfield Police Department and the Union County Attorney’s Office.
Authorities are looking for two currently unidentified assailants.
The crimes began on the morning of November 28. The victim woke up to find three unknown men in her home who were armed and demanded money, Union County Deputy District Attorney Tina Fay said in a statement.
For several hours, McAllister and the other two men held the woman and her three children captive and sexually assaulted her at the threat of a knife, Fay said. They then forced the family into their own car and drove them to Newark where they were held for several hours before escaping when the three men exited the car.
McAllister was eventually identified by detectives and he was arrested on Tuesday and taken to Essex County Jail, police said. He will be held there until his first court appearance.
The incident remained under investigation and anyone with information was urged to contact the Union County Prosecutor’s Special Victims Unit Staff Sgt. Janet Lopez at 908-347-8491, Inspector Jennifer Smith at 908-759-8254 or Inspector Chanel Johnson of the Plainfield Police Department at 732-343-0718.
