Farmers’ associations staged a protest in Mysuru, seeking a detailed investigation into the alleged forgery of Nandini Ghee – a product of the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF).
Karnataka members Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRSS) and Hasiru Sene staged a protest in the Mysuru district of Karnataka near the office of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) on Thursday, December 30, urging the state government to order a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) investigation into allegations of adulteration of Nandini Ghee – a product of the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) which is a government enterprise.
The KRRS and Hasiru Sene are important organizations that have in the past taken on the problems of farmers and organized protests and other movements in Karnataka. The protesters called on the state government to conduct a detailed investigation into the unearthing of fake Nandini ghee manufacturing units in Mysuru, Bangalore and several other districts of Karnataka. A few such rackets have recently been dismantled by the police and the Food Safety and Control Department.
Protesters alleged that KMF insiders were involved in racketeering with milk union officials. Protesters called on the government to act quickly by conducting a CBI investigation into the allegations.
“Such measures are essential to protect for-profit cooperative institutions such as dairy unions across the state and it is also important to regain the trust of milk producers,” protesters said. “The government should know that thousands of thousands of farming families earn their living selling milk to KMF,” they added.
Protesters also demanded that authorities at Mysuru Milk Union Limited withdraw their ordinance on restrictions on the sale of raw milk from dairies or milk supply centers from January 2023, as it harms the interests of cooperative societies in primary milk producers in the district.
