IT attacks SP leader Pushpraj Jain ‘Pampi’ amid BJP ‘vindictive policy’ claims

Lucknow: The Income Tax (IT) Department conducted searches of nearly 50 premises of the Samajwadi Party (SP) MLC and the perfume baron Pushpraj Jain “Pampi” from Friday morning December 30. The raids began on Friday morning before Pampi addressed a joint noon press conference with SP chief Akhilesh Yadav in Kannauj.

These raids are gaining importance in the context of the upcoming parliamentary elections in Uttar Pradesh.

Detectives from the tax department carried out simultaneous searches of premises associated with the SP MLC in Kannauj, Kanpur, Lucknow, Noida, Delhi, Mumbai, among others. The financial records of the companies in which Pampi is either a director or a partner are being checked to see if there are any financial irregularities. The raids began before the SP leader reached Kannauj from Lucknow for the press conference.

The IT department requested security blanket from state police before raiding the SP lawmaker, which owns a perfume store, gas pumps and cold rooms.

He knocked on Pushpraj Jain’s doors on December 30, after leading a nine-day raid on the business premises of a Piyush Jain perfumer. Almost Rs 196 crore in cash and 23 kg of gold were recovered from Piyush Jain.

The confrontation between SP and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) began when the BJP alleged that it was Piyush Jain who had recently launched the “Samajwadi Perfume”.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also attacked the opposition and said in Kanpur on Wednesday: “Boxes full of banknotes have come out. The people of Kanpur understand business and commerce well. Earlier in 2017, the scent of corruption they had spread over UP was still there for everyone to see.

However, the SP MLC has denied any relationship with Piyush Jain. According to SP, it was MLC Pushpraj Jain “Pampi” whose perfumery produced a “Samjadwadi Perfume”.

The SP chief attacked the BJP and claimed the trader (Piyush Jain) had ties to the Saffron rulers. The BJP government wanted the tax department to raid other perfume dealers, but one of its own employees, who was also a perfume dealer, was raided, Akhilesh Yadav said.

He also said recordings of the trader’s cellphones could reveal the names of several prominent BJP leaders.

It is only a coincidence that the SP MLC also resides in Kannauj, near the house of Piyush Jain, and the distance between their houses is only 500 meters.

Pushpraj Jain also told the media that Piyush Jain was neither his parent nor his business partner. SP MLC’s name appeared after the raids on Piyush Jain. It was also speculated that UP would witness many such raids in the run-up to parliamentary elections.

While the raids were underway at the Pushpraj Jain premises, the SP chief held a press conference in Kannauj and said that the IT department, the Directorate of Execution (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had danced to the tune of Modi’s direction. Union government and targeted opposition leaders.

Speaking to the media, the former chief minister said, “The Center raided the wrong person (Piyush Jain) earlier. This raid on the SP MLC (Pushpraj Jain) is an attempt to cover up the mistake made earlier. Piyush Jain also worked in the fragrance business.

Pushpraj Jain Pampi launched “Samajwadi Ittra”, a fragrance, last month in the presence of SP leader Akhilesh Yadav ahead of the 2022 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections.

Comparing the BJP to the propaganda ministry that worked under Hitler, Akhilesh Yadav said, “Hitler had a department for false propaganda, but the BJP government is full of people telling lies. He also went on to say that “the BJP is spreading the smell of hate. How will BJP like the smell of inclusiveness? “

Union Home Minister and BJP leader Amit Shah, currently in Uttar Pradesh, said “the stench of MS scent has spread across the country.” “Now when this perfume friend’s black money is looted, he feels uneasy,” he said.

It should be mentioned here that Piyush Jain was arrested on December 26 for tax evasion and taken into custody by the GST intelligence unit in Kanpur. Piyush was registered under Article 69 of the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) Act.

There was much discussion that the IT department “mistakenly” raided businessman Piyush Jain, although Pushpraj was to be investigated. However, the IT department denied the allegations and said a raid was carried out on Piyush Jain after GST officials intervened over tax evasion.

Reacting to the raids, Congress leader Anshu Awasthi said the BJP harassed state businessmen for collecting extortion money ahead of the elections. “The BJP is using the central agency to crush its opponents,” Awasthi added.

Political observers also view the raids as vindictive. Former Times of India editor Atul Chandra said “the BJP is trying to harass its main opposition party by carrying out these raids.” He suggested that “now Piyush Jain would get relief and a clean note, but Pushpraj Jain will face prosecution due to his association with the SP.”

However, it is not yet known whether computer detectives have found anything incriminating on the premises of SP MLC.
