Arsenal legend Ian Wright has criticized Scott McTominay’s role in the Wolves winner following Manchester United’s loss to the Midlands club at Old Trafford on Monday.

United suffered their first loss under Ralf Rangnick after Joao Moutinho’s late strike sealed Wolves’ first Premier League win at the Theater of Dreams.

McTominay was named man of the match in United’s last game, when he scored a fantastic opener in a 3-1 win over Burnley.

But Wright felt the Scotsman was to blame for not shutting down Moutinho for his 82nd-minute goal as the Portuguese had time to pick a corner.

“We can nitpick and say where Phil Jones’s header should have gone, but at the same time you have to be further away from where you, the starting midfielder, go defensively to try to stop him [Moutinho]’Wright said.

‘Look how long it [Moutinho] a – McTominay is the one who is closest to trying to reach him. If he’s on the team, he has to be on the team to do this job!

“He’s not in the team to do anything progressive because he hasn’t done anything progressive. If he’s going to be that defensive midfielder, then you do that job. He did not do it.
