In the latest changes, ULC President Beatrice Byenkya Nyakaisiki was dropped and replaced by Professor Nyeko Peni Magi as interim president.

Meanwhile, Imaryo Barbara, who served as committee secretary, was also replaced by Nyumba Henry as acting secretary.

ULC added that the leadership changes took effect in December 2021 and that any inquiries, consultations or questions to the commission should be done with a newly appointed team.

This development comes months after the Minister of Lands, Judith Nabakooba, suspended the management of the ULC and assumed the functions of the commission, citing the abuse of power of the top management of the commission headed by Byenkya.

In his letter dated October 12, Nabakooba asked Government Inspector General (IGG) Betty Kamya to investigate alleged cases of abuse and misuse of ULC resources, adding that the report’s findings would guide the process of restoring order. and the normal functioning of the Commission.

Responding to Nabakooba’s demands, Kamya in November hailed the minister’s earlier recommendations and ordered Byenkya to be banned from her post as chair of the commission.

A month later, Kamya also ordered Barbarah Imaryo to be banned from his duties as secretary of the Uganda Land Commission with immediate effect.

In separate letters, Kamya said there was enough evidence to pin Byenkya and Imaryo for the allegations, adding that it was necessary for the two to step down so that they could not interfere with the investigations.
